A Quickie before Vacation

Don’t have much time, so I’m going to cheap out and send you to somebody else’s thoughts. I find the post linked below most interesting. It’s over at h+ Magazine which “covers technological, scientific, and cultural trends that are changing — and will change — human beings in fundamental ways.”

This particular entry is called “Ghost in the Shell: Why Our Brains Will Never Live in the Matrix”. It’s an interesting read with a lot of info, but I find this statement particularly funny:

“And it came to me in a flash that many transhumanists are uncomfortable with biology and would rather bypass it altogether for two reasons, each exemplified by these sentences. The first is that biological systems are squishy — they exude blood, sweat and tears, which are deemed proper only for women and weaklings.”

Here’s another good one: “But as is typical in Hollywood science (an oxymoron, but we’ll let it stand)…”

Read the whole thing. The comments are interesting too, even if long-winded.

  1. Someone appreciated my humor! It happens so rarely that I take note. That article did make waves — but that’s not surprising, given the scarcity of bona-fide biologists among transhumanists.

  2. Very cool Athena. I will definitely take a look at your work. I love the “Girl Cooties Menace the Singularity” title. Congratulations on the Crossed Genres pub. Will check it out. I don’t Amble enough myself. Need to get back there more. It is on my blogroll though, so I get over there once in a while.

Cheers and thanks for stopping by!
